New Chief Executive for the FSA

A new chief executive has been appointed at The Financial Services Authority (FSA), he will replace John Tiner at the end of July. Hector Sants, currently the Managing Director of Wholesale and Institutional Markets at the FSA, will be appointed at the end of this month

Hector Sants has been with the FSA since May 2004, prior to that he was the chief executive of Europe, Middle East and Africa at Credit Suisse First Boston. During this time, he acquired a vast amount of experience of the wholesale markets in the UK and globally.

Mr Sant’s background in wholesale banking has made him highly regarded and liked in the City and he was seen as the front-runner for the CEO role when Tiner announced he was stepping down.

The appointment comes at a time of increased apprehension in financial markets worldwide and fears that a slowdown in the UK economy could leave city institutions and banks facing tough times.
