Saga is offering accident healthcare cover to its car insurance customers.

The financial provider, which specialises in providing cover for the over 50′s, said the optional add-on gives drivers peace of mind should they be injured in a road traffic accident.

Saga said it decided to offer the add-on after it discovered that ill health is a major cause of stress and anxiety among the over 50′s.

Furthermore, 250,000 people are injured on the UK’s roads every year.

The Accident Healthcare add-on providers up to £1,000,000 cover for private medical treatment of injuries sustained in road traffic accidents in the UK.

Cover includes up to 180 days treatment in a private hospital, outpatient treatment, consultants’ and specialists’ fees, physiotherapy, and ambulance transfer from an NHS hospital.

Andrew Goodsell, Saga Group chief executive, said: “Even a minor road accident can require medical treatment that can be a drawn out process.

“At times like these, older people in particular value quick access to high quality care that private healthcare provides.”
