Default Investment Opportunities in Sri Lanka

Where is Sri Lanka?
Sri Lanka is an island located at the tip of India, positioning it as a gateway to South Asia, and making it an international sea port hub. Its commercial capital is Colombo.

Why should you invest in Sri Lanka?
In addition to its location, the Colombo Port is ranked 1st in South Asia. Combined with Sri Lanka's bustling international airport and expansive road network, distribution of goods is efficient. Sri Lanka is also a good through-port for goods.

Sri Lanka enjoys a Free Trade Agreement with both India and Pakistan which provides unique business opportunities.
Investors can have the best of both worlds with, for example, access to India’s market and products, and Sri Lanka’s advantageous location as a base.

Sri Lanka has an open economy, encouraging both private sector investments and exports. Its Board of Investment (BOI) provides tax holidays and other incentives for investors attempting to set up in Sri Lanka. It also offers transparent and attractive laws.

Sri Lanka has an intelligent and cost-effective English-speaking labour force, with a 92% literacy rate, and the lowest labour cost per worker according to the World Bank Development Indicators.

It is also a beautiful country with many natural resources, a rich culture and friendly people.

Investment in SriLanka? thats interesting, this first time iam seeing a post on some one being interested in investing SL. anyways, SL has a good production of Tea. and hospitality business is doing well, there has been a jump in the real estate but not that much. Europeans, Americans are still scared of going to SL coz of LTTE (called Tamil Tigers), its better to invest in Seychelles, Mauritius, or Maldives.

Post Re: Investment Opportunities in Sri Lanka

Hi Everybody,

I am a new member to this site and was just wandering around until I came to this topic. Just came across this article and need to say that things have changed, in as little as 2 years. The island nation is now very peaceful even though there are LTTE Diaspora propaganda flooding the World Wide Web and most local and international media institutions.

As i am aware the Sri Lankan government has eliminated/annihilated the LTTE and maintained a very peaceful environment since the 18th of May 2009. At present the most happening stock market of Asia is the Colombo Stock Exchange of Sri Lanka. The country is currently locked in a frenzy of infrastructure development and in pursuit of attracting huge tourist arrivals to the island nation. Countries such as India and China only have invested in infrastructure, Technology advancements and in the tourism industry a staggering 12Billion US dollars ($12,000,000,000). Folks thats a lot of zeros. In addition Malaysia, Japan, Russia, Ukraine, Singapore, Iran, US, UK, Germany and many more EU nations have invested large sums of cash in various sectors of interest. Ukraine and China have won contracts to start drilling for oil in the North Sea close to the manna island which is part of Sri Lanka. Ukraine has come to an understanding to share space technology with the country.

Tey are constructing a huge port somewhere in the South of the nation to be fully completed by 2015-2020 and will be the worlds largest inland harbour in the world and the development of the current Colombo harbour also to go until 2020 to be the second biggest harbour in Asia. Plans to build a new city in Colombo its capital stretching 8km into the sea with reclaimed land from the south harbour construction and new high speed road network so called flyways are being developed as we sleep.

It also hopes to bring in the Indian film industry in order to produce new films in its scenic locations and is investing approx 790-830 million US dollars in the tourism sector in order to accommodate 2.5 million tourists by 2013. Aitkenspence, Four seasons, Hilton, Hyatt and several other high end hospitality/hoteliering giants have begun plans to expand their outlets in Sri Lanka.

There are some links on attachment in video (YouTube):

So then this little piece of advice in investing is based on my very own research, correct me if I am wrong.

Have a nice day folks
