AA anticipates bodged bank holiday DIY projects

AA Insurance is expecting a glut of home insurance claims this week due to bodged DIY projects over the bank holiday weekend

“We always see an increase in claims for DIY disasters after bank holiday weekends,” said AA Insurance spokesperson Simon Douglas.

Over a third (38%) of Brits spent their bank holiday working on a DIY project, and one in ten of those projects will have gone wrong, the AA said.

Common accidents include flooding caused by drilling through water pipes or damaging a tap, new shelves falling off the wall, flat pack furniture collapsing, paint spilt on the carpet, broken glass, and electrics being fused because a wire is cut through.

Nearly two in five (38%) DIYers attempt to fix the damage themselves.

AA advises budding DIYers to make sure their home insurance includes accidental damage cover.

In related news, recent research by AA Home Insurance found that more women spend time doing DIY projects than men.
